2011 Proposed Program Schedule
(All programs subject to change.)

February 11 – Short presentation on Zeolites by Mark Dameron followed by a video lecture by Professor John J. Renton from his course “The Nature of Earth: An Introduction to Geology” produced by The Great Courses. Theme for Show & Tell will be Crystals.

March 11 – Presentation by Warren Arends on Cabbing.

April 8 – Video lecture from “The Nature of Earth: An Introduction to Geology” series. Theme for Show and Tell will be Petrified Wood.

May 13 – presentation by Roger Clark on Fairburn Agates (not yet confirmed).

June 3 (note date change) – Annual elections and presentation by Dan Lane on Gold Panning.

July – No meeting.

August – No meeting. (Club picnic).

September 9 – Presentation by Mark Dameron. Topic to be determined).

October 14 – Presentation by geologist Charley Trautwein (not yet confirmed).

November 11 – Video lecture from “The Nature of Earth: An Introduction to Geology” series. Theme for Show and Tell will be Fossils.

December 9 – Annual Christmas Party.

January 13, 2012 – Video lecture from “The Nature of Earth: An Introduction to Geology” series. Theme for Show and Tell will be Agates.

and Activity Schedule
(All trips and activities subject to change.)

April 16 – Ashfall State Park, Nebraska (guided tour if possible) and collecting near Niobrara, Nebraska.

May 14 or 21 (Date will be scheduled to coincide with Rapid City Agate Swap) – Guided tour of Museum of Geology at Black Hills School of Mines and Technology and possible agate hunt.

June 11 & 12 – South Dakota Outdoor Expo at Huron.

June 25 – Local gravel pit

July 23 & 24 – Keokuk Iowa Geode Hunt
     (Mark Dameron – coordinator)

August 13 & 14 – Sioux Empire Fair in Sioux Falls
     (Vern Timmermann - coordinator)

August 21 – Annual Club Picnic at Falls Park
     (Vern Timmermann – coordinator)

September 3, 4 & 5 – Camp 5 Road, Gold Panning and Collecting
     (Dan &Teresa Lang – coordinators)

September 3, 4 & 5 – Annual Crawford Nebraska Rock Swap – (No field trip planned)

October 15 – Shark Tooth Hunt near Mitchell (water levels permitting)

Additional local gravel pit hunts may be scheduled. Most of these will be scheduled for a Saturday following a regular club meeting.
